Alas, there is no hovercraft style landing to experience in Hong Kong anymore. Just a smooth landing over the sea. As the plane was an hour early (just after 4am local time), I had to wait a couple of hours for someone to check me in so I looked like a proper backpacker curled up on the plastic seats they must make in a big factory somewhere (probably China) for all the world’s airports. The airport is just an airport with mainly the same duty free stores (although they do have free wi-fi everywhere (unlike SKSA). The two most striking things in my couple of hours here are 1) only Chinese people shop in the Chinese candy store and 2) the Chinese have never heard of Maccas McMuffy style muffins. Breakfast burgers (which I was craving for that hangover feeling you get when you don’t sleep) come on a croissant and I’ve got to say – you can get away with a slightly stale McMuffy. The same cannot be said for the croissant. The French must be horrified. And with that it’s off for another 10 hours on a plane – the window will be more useful this time as the entire trip will be in daylight.
hey glad you got to finland safe 🙂 we are missing you already!
Okay — you’ve been in Helsinki for at least five minutes .. wot’s happening
